The Dtech 55 In 1 Card Reader is a USB device that reads all of the common (and somewhat uncommon) memory cards used by cameras and other devices. I just wonder where Dtech came up with the “55 in one” claim.

The device itself is 2″ X 2″ X 1/2″ and has a detachable USB cord with a universal connector, which is nice. It also has a little bling to it: The backlit logo on the top changes colors when it is plugged in. Perhaps it could double as a USB Christmas tree ornament?

The card reader works as expected, mounting on your desktop as a drive when you insert a card. A small LED status indicator light lets you know if the card is reading.

Cards that can be read by the 55 In 1 Card Reader are Compact Flash, XD, SM, SD, MMC and Sony’s Memory Stick. It would have been nice to have Micro and Mini SD ports as well, although you can get SD adaptors for those so they can be read in the SD port.

I can’t actually say that the product works as advertised, because the 55 In 1 Card Reader reads six card types, leaving me wondering where the other 49 features are. My guess is that this was a bad translation to English, as the product is manufactured and marketed from China. This is not unusual, but I could not find any information about the product online other than some information for distributors. It appears that this product is mainly targeted toward Eastern Europe markets. I was surprised that Dtech’s own web page did not list this device.

While you’re certainly not going to find 55 features in this card reader, it is a viable card reader nonetheless.
