AAUG meeting info
Date: April 12th, 2017
John Lyons, lead seismologist at the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO), will be joining us at the April 12th meeting.
John has been involved in the recent installation and upgrading of the seismic networks and will be discussing "the overall technology behind the monitoring program, activity detection, and notification systems." He will also present information about the observatory’s remote sensing satellite capabilities which is used to monitor the volcanoes that do not have seismic instrumentation installed on them.
The AVO was formed in 1988 and uses federal, state, and university resources to: 1) monitor and study Alaska's hazardous volcanoes; 2) predict and record eruptive activity; and 3) mitigate volcanic hazards to life and property. For more information about the Alaska Volcano Observatory, please visit their web site: https://www.avo.alaska.edu .
